Winning for you

What a difference a year can make… and what a year this has been

One year on from the election of Unite general secretary Sharon Graham, Unite has ‘won big’ for members – and continues to do so. Everyone needs better jobs, pay and conditions – and this year has proved to be a year like no other. With our new general secretary Sharon Graham at the helm, Unite has gone from strength to strength, delivering for members. From airport workers to warehouse workers, Unite members throughout our incredibly diverse union have seen what a difference Unite can make, through the wages in the pockets to job security and better conditions in the workplace. It’s not always been easy – around 76,000 have been in dispute. But Unite aimed high – and with a success rate of 80 per cent and with over £150m won in higher wages, the dedication and determination of Unite and its members, dreams really have paid off in reams. But that’s just a start. Wherever you live within the UK the union’s work of securing better jobs, pay and conditions, continues without pause. There is still a very long road ahead – but we’ve established a firm footing for the future.

Sharon Graham, Unite general secretary

“Let our heroes be in number – let them be the collective. This is what matters now, and we cannot forget it. The baton has been passed on to us – workers and their communities are watching. So it’s time to stand on our own two feet, stop apologising, be proud of who we are and do our job and fight for working people.”
